From the mountains to the Brienzersee part 1

It's really rough eating breakfast when this is your view every morning

After breakfast we checked the forecast to come up with a plan for the day. It looked like the morning would be ok, but it was a bit sketchy after that. Jo and I wanted to go and climb a mountain, Delanie told us to "have fun with that" and decided to go for a Wanderweg (walkabout).

Delanie jumped on the cable car in Lauterbrunnen and rode up to Grutschalp where she rode the train to Murren. Murren is a pretty little town which is nestled on the side of the plateau over the western side of the Lauterbrunnen valley. It has a nice laid back atmosphere and there are no cars there. It also has some nice views of the mountains.

From there Delanie wanderwegged down to the sleepy hamlet of Gimmelwald....not to be confused with Grindewald in the next valley

Gimmelwald is a popular jumping off point for paragliders. From here they can ride the thermals and gain lots of elevation.

The entire Lauterbrunnen valley is also a hotbed for BASE jumping. They leap from the cliffs and soar across the valley in their squirrel suits, opening their chutes just before touching down. Jo and Delanie weren't keen on trying this....I guess I will have to wait for my next visit.

From Gimmelwald Delanie took the cable car back down to Stechelberg on the valley floor

There are a total of 72 waterfalls in the Lauterbrunnen valley. Some are big, and some are small, but it's fun to watch how they change after a big rainfall.

Just coming back into town Delanie climbed up the small passageway that is carved into the rock face below Staubbach Falls. Depending which way the wind is blowing you get a fantastic view, or a shower
